Giglio Castello – August 25 and 27, from 9:00 PM
The streets of Giglio Castello will once again become an open-air exhibition space, hosting three photography exhibitions dedicated to the history, landscapes, and everyday life of Isola del Giglio.
A journey through vintage images and photographs that tell the story of the island over time, offering visitors the opportunity to rediscover its places, people, traditions, and everyday moments.
Tuesday, August 25
The first event will feature “La Costa d’Argento negli scatti dei F.lli Gori” (“The Silver Coast through the Lens of the Gori Brothers”), a photography exhibition focusing on the 1950s and 1960s, curated by Maria Enrica Monaco and Gualtiero Della Monaca.
The exhibition will be set up along the route from Largo Loredano Baffigi to Piazza IV Novembre, transforming the streets of the village into an open-air photography gallery.
Also on Tuesday, August 25, and again on Thursday, August 27, from 9:00 PM, visitors will be able to see the historic photography exhibition “L’Isola del Giglio” at Via Roma 3, featuring photographs taken by Enrico d’Albertis between 1907 and 1915.
A precious visual record offering a glimpse of the island and its community more than a century ago, through images that capture the atmosphere, places, and people of Giglio at the beginning of the 20th century.
Thursday, August 27
On Thursday, August 27, from 9:00 PM, “Frammenti di Miniera” (“Fragments of the Mine”) will take center stage, with a photographic exhibition along the route between Largo Loredano Baffigi and Piazza IV Novembre.
Through portraits, landscapes, and photographic testimonies, the exhibition tells the story of the work, hardship, and everyday life connected to the island’s mining history, bringing an important part of the local heritage and collective memory back to life.
The three exhibitions invite visitors to slow down and take a closer look, allowing the images to guide them on a journey through the historical, cultural, and human heritage of Isola del Giglio.
An opportunity to see the island through new eyes while, at the same time, discovering in the photographs of the past the roots of a community and a territory that continue to tell their story in the present.
