The medieval borough of Giglio Castello – one of the top on the list of the 100 most beautiful boroughs in Italy – is the scenery for the celebrations for the role of protagonist that wine has always covered and still wears in this community.
The Grape Festival of Giglio Island is an event that occurs habitually during the month of September, in occasion of the harvest which also represents the beginning of the production of the valuable Giglio wines that the vines – whipped by the sea wind and kissed by the sun – gift in small quantities but always of great quality.
It is a matter of a decently recent tradition, which however, over the course of around ten years, became one of the most important and attended of the popular celebrations on the Island. The wine tasting, which accompanies the plates of the land’s products, is highly evocative as it takes place in the very antique cellars inside the borough; every year it brings in passionate tasters and professionals of the wine sector, who take advantage of the Festival to participate in events, conferences and gatherings on the topic.
